Louisville Metro Animal Services - HQ

Location: Louisville, KY
Type: Renovation & Addition

Description: The Louisville Metro Animal Services organization relocated its animal shelter and animal care clinic from an aging building it had outgrown to a brand new facility on the site of a former maintenance garage. This project had many interesting components, not the least of which was its inhabitants! Specific temperatures for certain animals and increased air changes to control odor were among the particular needs of this space. A packaged boiler room was utilized for this project to install all equipment within the room offsite and then drop the entire room into the building. This saved time and onsite labor. Because this was a renovation with an addition, a hybrid of HVAC equipment was used. This included 100% makeup air units with energy wheels, water sourced heat pumps, mini-splits and reheat coils. The building is occupied 24/7 and thus boiler heat was utilized and integrated into the domestic hot water with a heat exchanger.

Kentucky Transportation Board - County Garages, Forst & Associates, Municipal Project

Kentucky Transportation Board - County Garages

Location: Spencer, Larue & Menifee Counties in KY
Type: New Construction

Description: The Kentucky Transportation Board had an initiative to upgrade the county garage and offices that maintain the county roadways and properties. The buildings consisted of 2 large garage bays with an attached office area to support the staff. The garages were all in more remote locations, in order to access county roads during emergencies such as snow storms. This required new and often independent utilities to be run like new electrical service for power, lateral fields for plumbing waste, and propane tanks for heating.
